Narrative
He is smart. He is Dexter Morgan, America’s favorite serial killer who spends his days solving crimes and his nights committing them. Angel Batista wasn’t always played by David Zay in season 8. His son, David Zayas Jr., replaces his father in some photos because the two look so much alike.

Dexter, seen in the first season, has a large scar on his left side. Later, during the second season, the scar moved to the right side, while the left side remained unnoticed. Dexter Morgan: I lived in the dark for a long time. Over the years my eyes adjusted until darkness became my world and I began to see…
Main theme written by Rolf Kent, performed by Rolf Kent
After four episodes, I’m ready to declare it the best show on TV right now, which may one day rank alongside the likes of The Sopranos and the first season of Twin Peaks as a contender for the second best show of all time (behind the incomparable _Buffy the Vampire Slayer_ ; the series is co-produced and written by former Buffy writer Drew Z. Greenberg, and the cast includes Buffy/Angelo star Julie Benz). Dexter is a sociopath, a man with no human feelings and therefore no natural, internal moral compass, and he has an unquenchable thirst for blood that drives him to kill. However, he had the great fortune of being adopted by a police officer who (as we see in the excellent flashbacks) successfully instilled in him a comprehensive moral code that he adheres to on a strictly intellectual level.
I’ve seen the future of structuring TV seasons and that’s it
It’s an absolutely brilliant concept (I think it comes from the novels it’s based on) that allows the writers to explore the nature of moral behavior and what it means to be human (Dexter is, in a way, an alien). Another thing the show does well is moving side by side at different speeds. There’s the main obvious season-long story arc (about the cat-and-mouse game between Dexter and the serial killer) and a secondary arc involving Dexter’s sister’s police career. The first handful of episodes feature a very strong wrap-up involving one of Dexter’s police colleagues and a local crime boss, and two of the four episodes so far also feature a standalone story tied between ongoing events.
The cast and production are excellent
While the writing doesn’t match _House_’s best brilliance, it was excellent. The only reason you wouldn’t want to watch this absolutely amazing show is its frequent use of extreme candids: the first four episodes probably featured more severed body parts than the first four episodes of any other TV show on air combined. . If you can stomach it, get a mesmerizing look at what makes us human—or inhuman.
